IT IS WITH GREAT SADNESS THAT WE HAVE TO
RECORD THE PASSING OF
Capt. John Gerrish
It is with sadness that I have to record the passing of Capt. John Gerrish
John had been ill for some time although he was always cheery when I called for a chat in recent days.
He was a great help with information about British Eagle he started with Eagle at Blackbushe in the mid 50's.
Like many he had so many stories to tell. Like the one after he had landed on Christmas Island just before they
exploded the first Atom bomb. Sticking to the rules, he had run out of duty time, so he stayed put on the Island and witness it.
John always maintained that he was the oldest pilot in the world.
This was due to a mistake in the date of a medical certificate issued in 1967 but dated 15th August 1867!
We send our condolences to his wife Gill and the family
The funeral will be held at 16:30hrs
on 10th July 2017
at Bury St.Edmunds Crematorium
