There were times when sadness fell upon the airline and on 29th February 1964 The British Eagle Britannia
G-AOVO crashed into the Glungezer Mountain whilst approaching Innsbruck Airport.
Time was taken out of an Austrian holiday to climb to the peak of the mountain and place this memorial script along side the Austrian memorial. The climb was not without its problems. There had been a recent heavy fall of snow and diversions from the path had to be made as we climbed. I was grateful to Gerhard Wilhelmer of Innsbruck, a more experienced climber, who accompanied me.
The script is now contained in a metal box attached to a large wooden cross, which also contains a visitor’s book.
