If you were involved in the life of G-ANCF (Charlie Fox)
We are inviting you to join us for a very special event on 19th November 2008 to mark
the occasion of the inaugural flight of G-ANCF “Charlie Fox’’
Fifty years ago, this Bristol Britannia, one of the last few remaining, took to the air, from Shorts Airfield, Belfast. Over the next thirty years, the aircraft saw service in South America with Transcontinental Airlines, before moving to British Eagle, Monarch, African Cargo and finally Invicta. A large part of its flying career was spent flying between the UK and Woomera, South Australia on behalf of the British Ministry of Defence. The aircraft ended its flying career on the
30th October 1980 having flown a total of 37074 hours.
The aircraft was acquired by Proteus Aero Services for preservation and dismantled at Manston during 1987. Over the next 20 years the aircraft was on loan to the Bristol Aero Collection. In 1991 ownership passed to the Britannia Aircraft Preservation Trust, a registered charity.
In early 2007, a permanent home was found for Charlie Fox at its former spiritual home at Speke, Liverpool. It was here the aircraft was maintained while in service with British Eagle during 1964 – 1968.
The aircraft is now in the process of being re-assembled and painted in the original British Eagle livery. Once complete it will take pride of place as part of a growing collection of vintage aircraft, outside the old terminal building at Speke (a four star Crowne Plaza Hotel)
We are planning a celebration lunch for invited guests; especially those who were involved with Britannias, to attend this celebration and to help raise funds for further restoration.
The day will commence with morning coffee and a visit to GANCF airside, to see work in progress. A three course lunch will follow with a special guest speaker and plenty of opportunities to meet your former colleagues and friends.
The cost will be £35 Per person for the daytime event.
The hotel is offering a reduced rate for those who wish to stay overnight and we have additional information on alternative accommodation in the area.
To indicate your interest in attending, please RSVP to
Roger Hargreaves at britboss1@aol.com or Tel 07772485527
Further details will then be sent.
Should you be unable to attend on this occasion, but would like to be informed of future events,
please let us know and any donations towards restoration funds will be most welcome.
We look forward to hearing from you.
Yours sincerely,
Roger Hargreaves.
